Les années 1970 terminées, le présentateur de nouvelles le mieux coté de San Diego, Rob Burgundy (Will Ferrell), retourne derrière son bureau pour Présentateur vedette 2: la légende se poursuit. Sont également de retour: Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) –présentatrice aux côtés de Ron et aussi sa femme- monsieur météo Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), l'homme sur la rue Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) et le spécialiste des sports Champ Kind (David Koechner). Ensemble, il leur sera difficile d'avoir de la classe alors qu'ils prennent d'assaut la première chaîne de diffusion continue, 24 heures sur 24, de New York.
