    Rudesheim, la Rhénanie, 1944. Lenya (Amandla Stenberg) a atteint l'âge adulte pendant le chaos de la guerre. Sa mère (Abbie Cornish) a fait de son mieux pour protéger Lenya, mais le credo raciste du national-socialisme l'a rendue paria à cause de la couleur de sa peau. Pourtant, l'ardeur juvénile peut fleurir dans les endroits les plus improbables : Lenya est amoureuse de Lutz (George MacKay), un jeune nazi. Lutz suit la ligne du parti en ce qui concerne l'antisémitisme, mais reste attiré par Lenya malgré le dégoût nazi à l'idée d'une Allemande noire.
