Henry (Jason Sudeikis) is an introverted New Orleans architect on the verge of sealing a career-defining deal for an upscale waterfront development project. He and his quirky free-spirited artist wife, Penny (Jessica Biel), are expecting their first child. When tragedy strikes, Henry finds himself suddenly alone. While grieving and trying his best to avoid Penny's mother (Mary Steenburgen), Henry takes to heart a promise he made to his wife concerning a homeless girl she'd seen going through their trash. Henry befriends the young girl (Maisie Williams), and the two work together to build a raft designed to weather a transatlantic crossing. A couple of construction guys join in on the project which is no small feat and a quest that draws the four unlikely friends that much closer together.
