    1929     Musical romantic drama

As an investigation into the problems of performance and human psychology, this early sound film tells the story of a talented ventriloquist Gabbo, who goes insane as his egotistic and neurotic character drives his beloved assistant away. Increasingly, the line between Gabbo and his dummy is blurred, as he becomes unable to communicate except through the dummy, at times even treating it as a separate being.
